Trusting God at the Crossroads

What do you do when life doesn’t go according to plan?

Many of us enter adulthood expecting clarity. But instead, we find confusion, rejection, and open-ended questions. In this conversation, Mary Spencer Veazey shares how her greatest redirections led to the most meaningful growth.

From job disappointments to finding community in a new city, Mary opens up about what it means to trust God at the crossroads.

When the Door Closes

Mary graduated with a new degree and high hopes. But instead of landing the job she expected, she found herself applying to hundreds of roles and hearing nothing back. The season was discouraging. But it led her to a nonprofit called The Next Door. And that’s where things began to shift.

God didn’t open the door she wanted. He opened the one she needed.

Community Takes Courage

Mary moved to a city where she didn’t know anyone. Instead of staying stuck, she got creative. She started inviting strangers to lunch, introduced herself at coffee shops, and said yes to small groups at church. Over time, those simple steps turned into deep friendships.

If you’re looking for connection, take the first step. Others are likely waiting for someone to do the same.

Boundaries and Generosity

Mary shares honestly about burnout and overcommitment. She used to say yes to every opportunity. But now, she’s learning to serve in a way that’s sustainable. Whether it’s tithing on autopay or showing up faithfully for the girls in her youth group, she’s choosing presence over pressure.

True generosity isn’t about doing everything. It’s about doing the right things with a whole heart.

Courage Changes Everything

Throughout this episode, Mary reminds us that clarity often comes after obedience. God meets us in motion. And most of the time, what He’s asking for isn’t perfection. It’s courage.

Whether it’s applying for the dream job, showing up at church alone, or setting boundaries in a noisy season, courage changes everything.
