Holding on to God’s Peace When Life Feels Uncertain
What do we do when the answers don’t come? When the wait stretches longer than we imagined, and hope starts to wear thin?
This week on The Trailblazer Talks, I had a heart-to-heart conversation with Kara Stout about the kinds of seasons we don’t always talk about out loud, seasons of long waiting, persistent prayer, unanswered questions, and learning to trust God when life doesn’t make sense.
Kara is a wife, writer, new adoptive mom, and the author of An Untroubled Heart: Calming Anxiety and Finding God’s Peace. Her story is both tender and grounded, and it reminds us that peace isn’t about everything going right, it’s about staying rooted in the One who is faithful, even when life feels uncertain.
Waiting with God, Not Without Him
Kara and her husband waited nearly 10 years to become parents. Their journey through infertility and adoption was long and painful—and yet, she shares that it was in the waiting that God did His deepest work.
“It was hard,” Kara says. “But I can look back and say with confidence, God changed me there.”
So often, we rush to get through seasons that are actually sacred. And Kara encourages us to lean into the waiting instead. It’s where God forms things in us we can’t rush—trust, maturity, compassion, and a deeper dependence on His voice.
The Peace That Doesn’t Make Sense
Peace doesn’t always come in the absence of struggle. In fact, Kara reminds us that true peace often shows up in the middle of it.
During the hardest season of her life - losing her mom to cancer, she saw this firsthand. God didn’t answer her prayer in the way she had hoped. But He answered with His presence. And that changed everything.
“It’s His presence that’s the gift,” Kara says. “He is the gift. And His peace really can guard our hearts when everything around us feels uncertain.”
