Step Into Your Calling Without Feeling Qualified

Have you ever felt like you were not ready for what God was asking you to do?

Maybe you have questioned your qualifications. Maybe you have felt unseen or unsure if you even belong in the space you feel called to step into. Or maybe you have been waiting for someone to affirm what you sense God is already stirring in your heart.

This week on The Trailblazer Talks, I sat down with Cassandra Speer to talk about what it really looks like to step into your calling when you feel unqualified.

Her story is a reminder that God’s invitation is not based on your résumé. It is rooted in His sufficiency.

God Is Not Limited by Your Qualifications

One of the most powerful parts of Cassandra’s story is how unexpected her journey has been.

She did not start in ministry. She was a hairstylist for over a decade. She did not follow a traditional path into writing or theology. In fact, she openly shares that she once believed she would be the least likely person to step into this kind of calling.

And yet, that is exactly where God led her.

So often, we look at our past and assume it disqualifies us. We compare our experience, our education, or our timeline to someone else’s and quietly decide we are not enough.

But God has never been limited by human standards.

He is not asking for perfection. He is asking for obedience.

The Power of One Yes

Cassandra’s journey did not begin with a platform or a clear plan. It began with a quiet yes.

In a season of transition, uncertainty, and personal challenge, she started writing. There was no large audience. No guarantee that anyone would read her words.

But she showed up anyway.

That is often how calling begins. Not with visibility, but with faithfulness.

We can easily underestimate what God can do with one simple act of obedience. One step. One post. One conversation. One yes.

You do not have to see the full picture to begin. You just have to be willing to move forward with what God has already placed in front of you.

When Obscurity Feels Discouraging

There is a part of the journey that no one talks about enough.

The quiet seasons.

The seasons where you are showing up, doing the work, and it feels like no one is paying attention.

Cassandra shared that for years, she wrote in obscurity. There was no viral moment. No instant recognition. Just consistency and obedience.

Those seasons can feel discouraging if you are measuring your impact by visibility.

But God often does His deepest work in hidden places.

He is shaping your character. Strengthening your voice. Preparing you for what is ahead.

If you are in a season that feels unseen, it does not mean it is insignificant.

You Do Not Need Permission

This is one of the most important truths from this conversation.

You do not need permission to walk in what God has already called you to do.

It is easy to wait for someone else to affirm you. To tell you that you are ready. To open the door for you.

And while encouragement and support are beautiful gifts, they are not requirements for obedience.

God has already given you the invitation.

You do not need a co-signer to say yes to Him.

When Rejection Feels Personal

Rejection is part of the journey, and it can feel deeply personal.

Whether it is in your work, your relationships, or your community, rejection has a way of making you question your calling.

Cassandra shared honestly about moments where she felt overlooked or unsupported. Moments where it would have been easier to step back.

But she also shared a powerful perspective.

Sometimes a “no” or a “not now” is God’s protection.

It is not always a sign to stop. Sometimes it is a sign to trust Him more deeply and keep going.

Even when it does not feel like it, God is still at work.

You Are Already Invited

One of the most freeing truths to hold onto is this:

You are not waiting to be invited into your calling.

You already are.

God is not asking you to become someone else before you begin. He is asking you to trust Him with what you have right now.

Your story is not a limitation. It is part of how He will use you.

Your lack of confidence does not disqualify you. It invites you to rely on Him.

And your obedience, even in small ways, matters more than you think.
